Challenge 7 – Design your own coat of arms
Rochester Cathedral is full of coats of arms belonging to people, places and organisations. When you next visit see how many you can spot. Coats of arms of many Bishops of Rochester can be found in the quire, they form a timeline around the walls and on the back of the cathedra, the Bishop’s throne.
No two coats of arms are the same, each one is unique. The images, patterns and colours used on coats of arms are symbolic, they have hidden meanings.
Why not design your own coat of arms. Use images that tell us something about yourself. You may find our “Coats of Arms Code Sheet” helpful or you may want to create your own secret code.
If you need inspiration take a look at our Bishops’ Coats of arms photo sheet.
