A full peal is being attempted today by a visiting team of bellringers. A full peal requires over 5000 different changes (or combinations of the order of bells) to be rung without a break and, if successful, will take in the order of 3 hours and 30 minutes to complete.
Rochester Cathedral has 10 bells, cast in 1921 by Gillett and Johnston. They are tuned to D major and the tenor (the heaviest bell) weighs 30-0-14cwt (1500kg approx).
