Cathedral Closure March 2021

Following the Government announcement regarding the increasing levels of the Coronavirus, especially in Kent, we have revised the Cathedral opening times. Sadly, we will not be open for individual prayer, but will review this on a weekly basis in respect to the levels of the virus in Medway. This will not only protect the community but also enable us to shield staff at the Cathedral at this critical time.

We had hoped to continue to hold an 11am Eucharist on Sunday mornings for those who wished to worship in person. However, due to the increasing risk and developing situations in London and Kent, we have made the difficult decision to pause these for the time being. We will stream this on our website and on Facebook. We will review this decision weekly and hope to bring back in-person worship as soon as it is safe. I understand that this has been a very important lifeline for some during these dark days. The key message is to stay safe and the Government guidance is to stay at home.

We will offer live streamed choral services from the Cathedral on Thursday evenings. Please look on the website for details.

The Cathedral will be closed but the Test Centre in the Crypt remains open as part of our response to the present situation. Prayers will continue to be offered daily and clergy can be reached via the usual methods and via the website. Prayers are particularly offered for all health and emergency service workers who we know are under enormous pressure.

I am extremely grateful to all colleagues who are working tirelessly to keep the Cathedral functioning and serving the community.

Dean Philip
