Crossings - Explore & Draw with Luna Zsigo
/Crossings - Explore & Draw with Luna Zsigo
November 11, 2022
This month, our regular Explore & Draw sessions explored the Crossings, community and refuge exhibition.
Luna Zsigo, the founder of Explore & Draw, has run numerous art workshops that celebrate Medway’s rich Heritage and culture. Her ethos ‘Art is for All’ is inspired by George Frederic and Mary Watts and all abilities are welcome to join in the fun.
Luna collaborates with many heritage sites in the area, small businesses and other artists to deliver exciting workshops across the Medway globe.
In ‘Explore & Draw – Lampedusa Cross’, Luna collaborated with artist, singer and poet, Jo Eden and I think you will agree, the results are thought provoking and beautiful.
Her workshops are designed to inspire and encourage people of all ages, to connect to their inner creative whilst learning to love where they live.
Offering by Jo Eden
she says
they are coming
and coming
and coming
flimsy vessels full of dark strangers!
why do they come here?
We don't have enough for ourselves!
the carpenter replies
is anyone an island?
Our nave of refuge belongs in the same world's boat
my offering is small, spare, sincere
it is enough to strive to keep afloat
light strikes
and on every tiny offered cross
is written the scarred names of the named
and the names of the voiceless un-named
who knows what the seas waves will wash onto other shores?
what cities of sanctuary are seeded?
there but for the grace (or something)
we all go

The orphans by Luna Zsigo
The orphans, huddle together,
on the backs of wild white horses.
Frantically galloping, clamouring
towards distant shorelines.
Beaten, weathered as the waves rock.
Family ties loosen and ripple out to sea.
And what of those who are left behind,
To contemplate a future with repent.
New paths form on sea, salt and suffering,
bloodlines intermingle; they map time.
Silence stings the cheeks
Of the very young,
as they long for refuge.
A place to call home.

The perfect letter T by Andree McDade
Was it a Theresa or a Timothy who carved the perfect letter T,
complete with Serifs?
Did a toll of the Cathedral bell pull them away
signalling the next stage of their voyage,
and no time to carve more?
And now when I look at that perfect letter T, complete with Serifs,
I wonder did they survive?
If not, I thank a Theresa or a Timothy for leaving us
a perfect letter T, complete with serifs.
Explore and Draw will return in 2023, with many more exciting and unique events to get the creative juices flowing.

Hundreds of events and services are conducted every year at the Cathedral as they have for centuries.
