Thy Kingdom Come 2021
May 13 - May 23 2021
In recent years Ascension Day (May 13) has also marked the beginning of a ten day period of focussed prayer and reflection in anticipation of Pentecost: the renewing of the sending of God’s Spirit to refresh and inspire Christians in their faith and work.
This period of ten days is a period of prayer and it is marked by prayer. The theme – ‘thy Kingdom Come’ is a phase from the prayer – the Lord’s Prayer – the prayer that Jesus taught us.
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done; on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.
Rochester Cathedral and the Diocese of Rochester invite anyone and everyone to join the global wave of prayer, calling all Christians to pray between Ascension and Pentecost for more people to come to know the love and peace of Jesus Christ.
You can join us online and on Facebook, where there will be a series of daily videos with brief thoughts from Bishop James and Canon Gordon Giles and others. You are also invited to come into the Cathedral which will be open in the afternoons, to pray, sit quietly, light a candle and also to see banners celebrating the Lord’s Prayer, and the Corona Quilt, a beautiful memorial to those in Medway who have died from the Coronavirus.
Rest assured, even though we are beginning to look forward to release from lockdowns, the cathedral remains a Covid-19 secure location: you will be safe and cared for.
