Friday 10th April
/Consider, all ye passers by,
Regard me not with pitying eye;
O see if ever grief or pain
Were like the sorrow I sustain,
Which in the day of wrath are done
By God on me, his only Son.
Melt, O my soul,
O break, thou heart,
And in his sorrowing sigh a part.
To see the King of Kings neglected,
And for our sins of all rejected.
Witness his ‘Eli’ crying
In the last agony of his dying.
Come, come let us mourn, and mourning sing
Our thanks with tears for his suffering.
From the anthem ’Consider, all ye passer by’ by John Amner (1579–1641)
