Travel the universe at Rochester Cathedral this Autumn

Space Voyage is a spectacular internal sound and light show which will transform the inside of the majestic Cathedral. The show has been created by award winning artistic collaboration ‘Luxmuralis’, Peter Walker Sculptor and David Harper Composer. The show will take place on the evenings of the 5th, 6th and 7th October. Tickets are now on sale and advance booking is highly recommended.

The experience is suitable for visitors of all ages.

A spectacular experience

Space Voyage takes visitors on an immersive journey though light and sound. The visual spectacular allow viewers to go on a journey though space and time and gives visitors the chance to walk amongst the stars. Sound and light art will be projected onto the stunning architectural features within the Cathedral and visitors are enveloped with bespoke music as they view and experience a journey to the edge of the Universe and back. Visitors will walk though projection art installations, be immersed in the sound and light, and have the chance to explore and contemplate their own personal journeys.

 This is the first time Space Voyagehas been shown at Rochester Cathedral but it has been installed in other cathedrals, including Lichfield and St Albans, across the country to rave reviews and sold out tickets.

Performances

Performances will take place this Autumn on the evenings of the 5th, 6th and 7th October. Timed entry will be in operation with the first time slot at 6.40pm

£7 Adults

£5 Children (6 - 18)

£20 Family tickets (2 adults & 2 children)

Children 5 and under go free but will need a ticket

About the artists

Artist Peter Walker and Composer David Harper are an Artistic collaboration called ‘Luxmuralis’. Through Son-et- Lumiere, sculpture and sound art pieces they transform and reinterpret the sense of place and space in various locations creatively helping members of the public to take a physical and emotional journey to identify with the subject and message of the artwork. 

Previous work by Luxmuralis has amazed tens of thousands at their spectacular artistic events in Germany, Italy and throughout the UK and now Luxmuralis come to Rochester with Space Voyage a wondrous immersive and experiential Son-et-Lumiere which has successfully been on tour and seen by around 50,000 people so far at Lichfield Cathedral , Oxford University Church, St Albans Cathedral , St Andrews Voices Festival, Exeter Cathedral , Sheffield Cathedral , and Carlisle Cathedral.

What can I expect?

The experience involves walking through the Cathedral to view a number of different light and sound projections. Each installation last about 5 – 8 minutes on a continuous loop. The whole experience should last between 40 – 50 minutes.

This exhibition includes loud sounds, music and moving and flashing images throughout the experience, as well as bright lights and areas of darkness within the Cathedral.

Can I arrive earlier or later than my timeslot?

Early entry will not be permitted but every effort will be made to allow access if you are running late within the confines of the opening hours of the exhibition. This will depend on capacity and the venue remaining COVID secure and will be at the discretion of Rochester Cathedral.

Refreshments

Refreshments will be available at the Café in the Crypt during the evening.

Disabled Access

We will endeavour to ensure all ticket holders enjoy their experience to the best of our abilities. However, please be aware that some of the route is not suitable for all wheelchair users. There are some stairs to get up to the Quire. We do have a lift but it has a weight limit. Please email info@rochestercathedral.org and we will advise.

Please do let us know in advance of arriving if you require assistance during the experience and we will do our best to assist.

Tickets

Tickets can either be bought online through our website or from the Cathedral Welcome Desk. If tickets are purchased online then the confirmation email counts as your ticket. Ideally this should be printed out but it is fine to show it on your phone as well.

If you purchase the ticket from our Welcome Desk you will get a physically printed ticket.

Refunds

Tickets are non-refundable. In the case of the event needing to be cancelled due to changes to Covid-19 restrictions Rochester Cathedral will aim to exchange tickets for the rescheduled event or will provide a refund if alternative dates can not be found or are unsuitable.

Covid-19 restrictions

This event will follow government guidance for Covid-19 precautions. We will update this closer to the dates if there are any changes.

Parking

There is no dedicated parking for this event and carparks in Rochester will be busy. We encourage visitors to walk or use public transport where possible.
