Why you should try this course
There are few activities more meaningful than recording and reflecting on the events of our lives, those we care about and the world we live in. Whether journaling to create a keepsake containing precious moments and thoughts, or to improve creative illustration and writing skills or to simply pass on your life experiences to future generations, this workshop teaches a range of fountain pen ink art approaches and techniques that will enhance the journaling experience.
The Tutor
Nick Stewart has a BA(Hons) degree in Graphics and Illustration from the University of Brighton and has tutored at the University for the Creative Arts. Nick is also internationally recognised for his investigations into using and promoting fountain pen ink as a creative medium.
What will we cover?
investigate fountain pen ink, it’s chromatography and reaction with bleach
learn about different paper surfaces and how to use dip pens and different watercolour paint brushes
create visual landscapes blending inks together using abstract watercolour techniques
learn how to blend 4 fountain pen ink colours, and create a colour wheel
learn about visual composition: layout, tone, colour and illustration techniques
create a written and illustrated page spread of a journal using the one medium
appreciate the creative versatility of fountain pen inks.
What will I achieve?
By the end of this workshop you should be able to:
develop a visual journaling style that works for you and your life
learn about a range of techniques that will enrich your journaling experience
know where to find further inspiration to progress your journal keeping.
Workshop duration
The workshop will be over 2 days, 2 sessions per day - morning (2 hours) and afternoon (2 hours).
