Goodbye to the Fenland Black Oak Table

After over a year at Rochester Cathedral, the Fenland Black Oak Table has left Rochester Cathedral

The spectacular 13m long table made from the wood of a 5,000 year old fossilised black oak tree arrived at Rochester Cathedral in March 2023. Thousands of visitors viewed the incredible table over the year.

Some people were even lucky enough to attend events on the table. Over the year the Fenland Black Oak Table has been used for all kinds of events and by community groups including;

  • 6 formal dinners including an Iftar meal with members of the local Interfaith community and Royal dinner with HRH The Duchess of Edinburgh

  • Over 16 community groups held activities including arts and crafts, creative writing and chess matches.

  • A street party with a difference for the coronation of King Charles III

  • ‘Come Eat with Me’ an exhibition inspired by Leonardo da Vinci’s Last Supper.

  • A Eucharist for our ‘Seat at the Table’ group

Truely a table for the Nation. It will be missed here at Rochester Cathedral.

It is now on display at Lincoln Cathedral
